I wrote this poem in response to various media predicting the end of the world. Television, podcasts, and other poets depict and decry the end of the world. In this poem, I answer the question:
What should we do with the time we have left?

There Should Be No Such Thing as a Teacher in a Foxhole

I wrote this poem during a code yellow lockdown at my school.
It hyperbolizes and expresses the tension and despair so many students and teachers experience in school lock down situations in the United States.

For the last handful of years, my principal as asked me to give a keynote speech at our school’s graduation. As a teacher of writing and speaking, I feel like this keeps me honest and I love doing it. The 2022-23 school year was hard for students. This speech reflects the sad and triumphant tones of the year.
